CRITICAL READING OF CEREMONY

Ceremony is about Tayo, a veteran of the World War II, and his struggles with PTSD, readjusting to normal life, and the racial injustice he faces because of his mixed heritage.

The Author uses a mixture of several literary devices such as Personification, Metaphors, and a heavy focus on Imagery. Most frequently the Author uses these devices to convey vivid descriptions of the book's diverse characters and locations.

Having never been much of a reader, I learned quite a large set of critical reading skills, such as how to find the deeper meaning behind a text and not just take it at face value.

I read my book through a Critical Race Lens because I was very curious to understand the dynamic of Tayo and the treatment he faces because he is half white and half native american.
