MOUNTAIN PROJECT

For this project we used pieces of wood we cut to make a mountain scene.

First we had to plan out our design to scale on paper. Following this we then copied our design onto a wooden board before we began cutting. We then cut out all of our wood pieces using our miter saw and set them into place. Once we had everything cut we stained each piece to its appropriate color (The mountains were brown with white peaks and the sky was a dark blue). After all that was completed we glued our pieces down to our board so they would stay in place. Once the pieces were glued we used long, thin pieces of wood to cut a frame that we then glued to our board. Lastly we sanded our board to smooth out the corners and coated it with polyurethane to give it a gloss finish.

By far the most challenging part of the project was having to re-cut pieces that we had incorrectly measured because depending on how long it took us to notice that a piece of cut incorrectly we may have cut more pieces to line up with it that would also be incorrectly cut.

I like how the final product looks. Sure there are better ones than mine, but I made this one which makes me like it more.

This project really made me learn why you "Measure twice, cut once" It was extremely important to not mess up a cut or it could ruin several pieces.
